What is mandatory

Fibre composition

Mandatory The fibres the product is made of and the share of the total weight each accounts for.

Legal basis

A textile product made available on the EU market must indicate its fibre composition, so an apparel passport must carry one.

“Textile products shall be labelled or marked to give an indication of their fibre composition whenever they are made available on the market.”

Fibre — Mandatory

Legal basis

Each constituent fibre must be named, so every row of a fibre composition carries a fibre name.

“A textile product shall be labelled or marked with the name and percentage by weight of all constituent fibres in descending order.”

Fibre share — Mandatory

Legal basis

Each constituent fibre must carry its percentage by weight, so every row of a fibre composition carries a share.

“A textile product shall be labelled or marked with the name and percentage by weight of all constituent fibres in descending order.”

Animal-origin statement

Mandatory in some cases The wording indicating the presence of non-textile parts of animal origin, as it appears on the product’s labelling or marking.

Mandatory when Contains non-textile parts of animal origin is yes.

Legal basis

A textile product containing non-textile parts of animal origin must say so, so a passport that declares such parts must carry the statement.

“The presence of non-textile parts of animal origin in textile products shall be indicated by using the phrase ‘Contains non-textile parts of animal origin’ on the labelling or marking of products containing such parts whenever they are made available on the market.”
